Don’t hover-use a cover

Image result for hover over toilet seat

Please don’t tell my mother I said this, but DON’T SQUAT TO USE PUBLIC RESTROOMS (or private ones for that matter). Even as I type this, I cringe thinking about the blood- and urine-stained toilets that I have seen over the years.

Anyway, as explained in the article referenced below, hovering can make it difficult for urine to flow easily, often requiring you to bear down to initiate urination or to make the urine flow faster. Frequent bearing down can contribute to organs in your pelvis dropping from their normal position and pushing on the walls of your vagina (prolapse). As those walls can become weak with childbirth, bearing down can worsen an existing prolapse or create one where there wasn’t one before. The tension in your pelvic floor and core muscles can also lead incomplete emptying of the bladder which can lead to urinary tract infections.

Although I must admit that I still hover, I am reflecting on how much micro-damage that I have done over the years and I know that it’s not worth it. As we travel over the holidays and shop until we drop, I hope that you all will carry bleach wipes and accept the challenge of not hovering with me.

P.S. I know what some of you are thinking so I will say this…Please don’t just hold it until you get home. This solution carries its own set of issues like having an overextended bladder and weakened pelvic floor muscles. #momssnapback
